This article describes three different eye witness reports that have recently surfaced in the city of Chicago. Eye witness reports typically don’t have much concrete evidence as to what they are trying to prove unless from a very reliable source. The author of this article, Danny Beauregard, states that most Mothman sightings don’t amount to much, however he says, “This is different.” I fail to see where these reports are any different than every other report I have already read. Nothing truly sets them apart, and the witnesses don’t provide any concrete evidence as to the Mothman’s existence.
Within the article, there are numerous grammatical errors, which could be chopped up to poor editorial skills. This makes you question the credibility of the author and the article itself. The first eye witness report described a “bat like creature,” followed by an “overwhelming sensation of dread.” The Mothman is very rarely described as a “bat like creature,” which leads to me believe this report doesn’t point towards Mothman like the author suggests.
The second eye witness report claims to have been, “hanging out with the boys,” whenever one of “homies” saw a giant Lechuza (a Mexican Urban legend about an old woman who can transform into a large bird.) As they approached the creature, it stood up on two legs and the glowing red eyes on it “freaked everybody out.” The vocabulary makes me question the credibility of the story and there is no physical evidence that this report is true.
The last eye witness report claims to have just gotten to work at 2am for his shift at the International Produce Market in Chicago. A group of guys were huddled around looking into the sky at what appeared to be a creature at a height of over 7 feet. The creature flew away after the men started to hurdle rocks at it. What raises a red flag is how he describes the chain of events. First, he says he arrived at a group of guys staring up into the sky at the creature. Then, he says “it stood there for a minute or two before launching into the sky.” Well which one was it? Was it already in the sky or was it “standing on the ground,” then launched into the sky?
At the end of the article, the author states that MUFON (The Mutual UFO Network) is investigating the eye witness reports and warns everybody to stay skeptical until the reports have been validated. Due to the lack of evidence, and the holes in these stories, I deem this article’s credibility to be inconclusive. You should be wary about taking this article too seriously.
